Staying warm is the key to truly enjoying winter—whether that means long days outdoors, a winter adventure in the city or out in the country, daily school runs, or simply feeling comfortable as the seasons shift. At Warmth and Weather, we return again and again to one simple truth: when the body is warm, there is freedom. Freedom to move, to explore, to linger outside just a little longer.
Layering from the torso outward—to fingers and toes—allows you to respond to ever-changing weather with ease. Add a layer when the wind picks up, shed one when the sun comes out. And remember: when hands and feet are warm, the whole body feels warm.
“Warmth holds a very special place in the life of human beings, because it supports the entire spectrum of human experience. There is physical warmth, emotional warmth—the warmth of love, of generosity, of true morality—and all of these ‘warmths’ pour over and merge with each other.”
— Dr. Adam Blanning (Blog Post on Warmth)
This understanding of warmth guides everything we do at Warmth and Weather—from natural fibres to thoughtful designs that support real life, real weather, and real movement.

Start with the Foundation: Merino Base Layers
Maintaining core body temperature allows warmth to gently spread to the extremities—right down to fingers and toes. Base layers are the quiet heroes of winter dressing, worn closest to the skin and working all day long.
Sleeveless Undershirts
An everyday essential in the colder months—and valuable year-round. Worn under long-sleeve base layer shirts or sweaters, a sleeveless layer adds core warmth without bulk.
Short Sleeve Shirts
Ideal on their own or layered over a sleeveless undershirt. Short sleeves are often more comfortable for those who run warm or feel restricted by long sleeves.
Long Sleeve Shirts
A cool-to-cold weather staple. Long sleeves can be worn alone or layered over a sleeveless undershirt for added warmth as temperatures drop.
Base Layer Leggings
Especially important for children, who spend so much time sitting or playing on the ground. We recommend adding leggings when temperatures fall below 10°C / 50°F to support steady warmth through the day.

Socks
On a visit to Hirsch Natur, our sock maker, we learned a wonderfully simple approach: you only need three pairs of wool socks. Wear one pair, air it for two days, and wear it again. Wool naturally resists odour and regulates moisture. Our 100% merino socks may need mending over time—but that’s part of their long life. Synthetic blends can cause feet to sweat, leading to cold feet. Pure merino keeps feet dry, warm, and comfortable.
Mid Layers: Flexible Warmth for Changing Weather
Mid layers sit between base layers and outerwear. Depending on the season and conditions, you may wear one or several. These layers hold warmth close while remaining breathable and easy to adjust.

Turtlenecks
A warm neck makes a noticeable difference as temperatures cool. Turtlenecks can be worn on their own over base layers or layered under sweaters for extra protection. Available for children, women, and men.

Sweaters
Lightweight yet insulating, mid-layer sweaters help maintain core warmth outdoors. Wool continues to feel warm even when damp and dries quickly, making it practical for active days. Easy to remove indoors. Available for babies, children, and women.

Leggings & Knitted Pants
Worn over base layer leggings, these provide smooth, reliable warmth under snow gear. They slip on easily and keep legs warm all the way to the ankles. Available for babies, children, and women.

Outer Layers: Protection from the Elements
The outer—or shell—layer shields the body from wind, rain, snow, and cold. This might be a boiled wool outer layer, which is then covered with rainwear, or a snowsuit, depending on the conditions.

Warm Sweaters & Jackets
Heavier wool layers can be worn on their own or under snowsuits. They offer excellent warmth without restricting movement.
We offer:
- Boiled wool jackets, vests, coats, and overalls
- Merino fleece clothing

Boiled Wool Trousers
Inspired by generations past—like watching my grandfather work outdoors in winter wearing boiled wool trousers—these pieces offer exceptional warmth and comfort. They can be worn alone or layered under rain gear, fitting close to the body while allowing free movement. Available for toddlers and children.

Warmth as a Way of Life
Layering with natural fibres is about more than staying dry or blocking the cold. It’s about creating a steady, supportive warmth that carries us through the day—outdoors and indoors, in work and play. When we are warm, we are more present, more resilient, and more at ease.
This is the heart of Warmth and Weather: clothing that supports the whole human being, season after season.
