Hand-dipped candles bring a rustic charm to any home. Using the Dipam Dipping Set with Tin and Wick, you can create beautiful, natural beeswax candles with ease. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started.
Materials Needed
- Dipam Dipping Set (tin and wick included)
- Beeswax pellets (included) you can also use blocks (not included)
- Heat-resistant gloves to move the tin
- Stove or hot plate or small crock pot
- Scissors
- A workspace covered with newsprint or a heat-resistant mat
- Cold water container
- cutting board and knife
Step 1: Prepare the Wax
- Place the dipping tin into a saucepan filled with a few inches of water to create a double boiler.
- Add beeswax pellets or chopped blocks to the tin.
- Gently heat the water to melt the wax, ensuring it doesn’t boil. Stir occasionally for even melting.
Step 2: Cut and Prepare the Wick
- Measure the wick length based on your desired candle height, leaving an extra 5-10 cm for easy handling.
Step 3: Start Dipping
- Once the wax is fully melted, carefully dip the wick into the tin until fully submerged.
- Lift the wick out slowly, allowing excess wax to drip back into the tin.
- Hang the wick to cool for a few seconds or until it hardens slightly. I use a container of cold water to help the wax to cool. If needed straighten the wick while it is still warm.
- Repeat the dipping and cold water process several times, allowing the wax to build up layer by layer.
- Trim the bottom of the candle periodically to keep it flat on the botom.
Step 4: Shape and Trim
- Once your candle reaches the desired thickness, hang it to cool completely.
- Trim the wick to about 1 cm.
Step 5: Enjoy Your Handmade Candles
Light your candles for a warm, natural glow, or package them as thoughtful gifts for loved ones.
Pro Tips
- Temperature Check: Keep the wax temperature consistent. If it cools too much, reheat gently to avoid cracking.
- Safety First: Never leave melting wax unattended, and keep a fire extinguisher and cold water nearby.
- Children love to do this activity but will need to do it with supervision.
