Wool Nourishes Too

Wool Nourishes Too

There’s a deep comfort that comes with autumn—the kind that fills our homes and settles in quietly, like the golden light of late afternoon. It’s a season of nourishment, from the foods we prepare to the warmth we wrap ourselves in.

On the farm, the sheep begin to grow their thick coats as the air cools. Their wool becomes part of autumn’s rhythm—a soft, steady layer of warmth that mirrors the way we, too, seek comfort in these shorter days. Once shorn and spun, that wool becomes something that nourishes the body: regulating warmth, breathing with us, keeping children cozy through play and exploration in the crisp air.

At home, nourishment takes another shape. For me, it often begins in the kitchen. My mom makes the best apple crisp—verified by my grandson! The one in the photos is hers, baked from the same recipe she’s made for decades. She gave me permission to share it here, and it’s truly a dessert apple crisp—rich, sweet, and perfect for cozy evenings.

Alongside it, I’ve included my own breakfast crisp—a gentler, warming start to the day that feels as good as it tastes. You can download both recipes below.

We can bring warmth to our families in so many ways: through the meals we make, the cozy spaces we create, the love we share, and the soft wool layers that hold us close. In food and in clothing, warmth becomes a language of care—a way of saying you are held, you are loved, you are nourished.
