For many people, wool still belongs to winter.
Sweaters. Hats. Warm layers for cold days.
But wool has another remarkable quality: it performs beautifully during movement. Whether hiking, cycling, practicing yoga, or simply spending long hours outdoors, merino wool supports the body in ways synthetic fabrics often struggle to match.
This is why we love working with Engel, a German company that has been creating clothing from natural fibres since 1986, always with care for both the planet and the people who wear their garments.
Their Engel Sports line brings the wisdom of natural fibres into active clothing designed for real movement.

Why Wool Works So Well for Activity
When the body moves, it produces heat and moisture. Clothing must respond to these changes.
Merino wool does this naturally.
Temperature Regulation
Merino wool helps the body stay balanced. When activity increases and body temperature rises, wool allows excess heat to escape. When movement slows, it gently holds warmth close again.
Instead of feeling suddenly overheated or chilled, the body stays comfortable.
Sweat Management
Unlike synthetic fabrics that can trap perspiration against the skin, merino wool absorbs moisture vapour and releases it into the air.
The result is a fabric that feels dry and breathable even during active movement.
This is especially helpful in transitional seasons like spring, when cool air and physical activity often happen at the same time.
Natural Odour Resistance
One of wool’s most appreciated qualities is its natural resistance to odour.
Merino fibres contain natural properties that inhibit odour-causing bacteria. Clothing stays fresher longer, making wool ideal for travel, outdoor adventures, and everyday movement.
Often, a simple airing out is all that is needed between wears.

Natural Fibres for an Active Life
Engel’s athletic wear is made from an exceptional blend of superfine merino wool (17.5 microns) and breathable silk. This lightweight fabric supports movement while remaining soft and gentle on the skin.
Two fabric weights support different activities:
150 g/m² base layers
Soft, lightweight layers worn close to the skin. Ideal for hiking, running, cycling, or as breathable everyday activity wear.
240 g/m² pieces
Leggings, hoodies, jackets, and yoga pants that offer a little more structure and warmth while remaining flexible and comfortable.
A small amount of elastane (just 2%) helps the garments maintain their shape while allowing the natural resilience of wool to do most of the work.

Performance with Purpose
Every Engel Sports garment is certified under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), one of the most trusted certifications in the textile world. This ensures that the fibres are processed with ecological responsibility and fair labour practices.
The clothing also carries the Grüner Knopf (Green Button) certification, which further supports socially and environmentally responsible manufacturing.
For us, this matters.
Performance clothing should support the body without compromising the health of the earth.

A Shift in Perspective
Wool is not only for winter.
It is one of the most versatile fibres available—breathable, resilient, naturally regulating, and deeply comfortable against the skin.
For hiking trails, bike rides, yoga studios, playground time, and everyday movement, wool allows the body to work naturally.
And when clothing works with the body instead of against it, movement becomes easier.
This is why we are proud to offer Engel Sports at Warmth and Weather—performance clothing that respects skin, nature, and every movement.
