A Fun and Creative Craft Project

How to Make Wet Felted Soap Bars

Wet felting soap bars is a simple and satisfying craft that combines creativity with practicality. These felted soap bars make beautiful gifts, are naturally exfoliating, and help your soap last longer. Whether you're crafting solo or sharing the experience with friends and family, this project is a wonderful way to slow down, get creative, and enjoy the process.

Materials You'll Need:

  • Bar or bars of soap
  • Wool fleece
  • Very warm water in a bowl or dish pan
  • A towel to catch drips
  • Optional: A little extra soap from another bar

You can find high-quality colourful plant dyed wool fleece in our crafting section here.

Simple Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Wrap the Soap: Take a bar of soap and tightly wrap it with wool fleece. You can start with a natural base layer and add touches of colored fleece for patterns.
  2. Prepare Warm Water: Fill a bowl with very warm water (but not too hot to handle).
  3. Gently Wet and Work the Fleece: Dip the wrapped soap into the warm water and gently start rubbing the fleece. At first, be very gentle—patience is key here! If needed, you can add a bit of soap from another bar to help the felting process.
  4. Felt the Fleece: Continue rubbing and working the fleece in small, circular motions until it tightens and becomes a smooth, solid felted layer around the soap.
  5. Rinse and Dry: Once the wool is fully felted, rinse the soap under cool water and gently press out excess moisture with a towel.
  6. Let it Dry: Allow your felted soap to air dry completely. I put mine over the heating register.

Time to Share!

Once dry, your felted soap is ready to use, gift, or display. Wrap it up with a ribbon or a simple piece of twine for a charming presentation.

Get Creative!

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different colors and patterns. Sometimes, I start with a natural fleece base and add just a hint of color for a unique design. Most importantly, relax and enjoy the process—it’s as much about the experience as the final product.
